this project begins the day after the roberts confirmation hearings open; katrina is bound to remain a story. i imagine these two stories will dominate both radio and tv news, though one hopes things improve enough on the gulf coast so that it's newsworthy only for the advances being made. i usually can tolerate talk radio of all stripes fairly well, but conservatives--or, rather, bush cheerleaders are in an unenviable position now of defending the indefensible. i don't know how long i can bear rush limbaugh if he makes more statements like he has this week, attacking the victims of katrina. i wish i could find a clip of it, but he asks of the 100,000+ people in new orleans who are either infirmed, elderly, or don't have cars--well, why didn't they leave? why don't they have cars?
